While visiting my new grandchild in California, a visit that I joyfully anticipated, I received the news about the violence that took place against UpRising Bakery & Cafe in Lake in the Hills.
Seeing pictures of the destruction to the Cafe and reading the description of the hateful words that were sprayed across the cafe, I felt disturbed and saddened that a small local business in our community could be harassed and targeted.
Now I’m angry and grateful that the alleged perpetrator is being charged with a hate crime. I will be supporting our law enforcement agencies working to bring justice to the owners of Uprising and encourage everyone to support this business when they once again open their doors.
While I support peaceful demonstrations, I expect any violent acts to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
I have reached out to the owner of Uprising Bakery & Cafe and am prepared to extend my full support as they navigate recovery.
